Traveler Tips
National Nurses Week takes place each year from May 6 and ending on May 12 (nursing trailblazer Florence Nightingale’s birthday) and is supported by the American Nurses Association (ANA).
The 2017 theme for National Nurses Week is “Mind, Body, and Spirit” and will focus on encouraging nurses to take charge of their own health in all its facets. While the ANA will be offering webinars and other resources for the week, consider taking it a step further and exploring ways you can take care of your mind, body, and spirit as a travel nurse.

The day-to-day responsibilities of travel nursing assignments already require so much constant learning as you adapt to new facilities, colleagues, and processes. It can be challenging to find the time and motivation to devote to acquiring new knowledge outside of what you need for your current duties. However, professional development and learning for the sake of learning can make you a better nurse and renew yourpassion. Schedule in some time to review some ANA resources, search for online articles, check out a hot new industry book, etc.

Nurses are so busy caring for the health of their patients that often their own health is sacrificed.
It’s no secret that travel nurses have a whole other layer of stress added with acclimating to new assignments and of course, factoring in the administrative requirements and actual traveling itself. It is crucial to prioritize your health, or you put yourself at risk of burnout.
National Nurses Week is the perfect time to sit down and review your current schedule and habits, then figure out how you can carve how time to fit in more physical activity, healthy eating, and sleep.

Your spirit is what will help carry you through the hardest times as a travel nurse.
Your emotional well-being is a major factor in how well you can perform in your nursing role and take full advantage of the benefits that travel nursing has to offer. Don't look back and realize you missed out on embracing the experience of travel nursing because you were struggling with homesickness, struggling to maintain connections with family and friends, or feeling lonely at your assignment location.
This National Nurses Week, think of ways to combat your loneliness or bored, such as by keeping yourself busy outside of work, exploring your new surroundings, reaching out to other nurses, and regularly Skyping, calling, and messaging your loved ones.
